Bedroom Floors

My client recently asked me if he should pull up the carpets in the bedrooms since there were wood floors underneath.Wood floors in the bedroom seem to be a personal preference. I, personally, love them in the bedroom. Some people would much prefer to have their first step out of bed be onto carpet. Keep in mind, if you are contemplating putting wood floors in the bedroom, it will not typically add value to your home since not all buyers want wood floors in the bedrooms. Although, I would highly recommend, make sure whatever flooring is in the before is in pristine condition before putting it on the market. Shampooing carpets and refinishing the wood floors ensures the room shows nicely to prospective buyers.

Bringing the Inside Out

The greatest thing about Denver for me- is the sun. I absolutely love it! Second to the sun, is the lack of humidity. Compared to the East Coast, it is hotter but can be a lot drier heat The nice weather ensures a lot of time is spent outside and I have been looking for ways to bring inside outside (without actually camping).

My absolute favorite idea? An outside shower.
I have had the opportunity to go to a number of resorts in the past that have outside showers, the last one was a resort in Costa Rica. The shower had a great view of water, mountains and monkeys. Although, a shower outside may not be all that suitable for homes in the city, it would be a great addition to a home in the mountains.

Ordinary to Extraordinary

One of the best things of design is the ability to take something ordinary and make it extraordinary. I love to look for different approaches to designing a home. I came across these pictures of showers that used two shower curtains and instantly loved the idea.

It takes something mundane (like a shower and shower curtain) and makes it more interesting. Using two shower curtains makes the room look more elegant and the shower more luxurious. What do you think? What else around the house can you do to turn something ordinary to extraordinary?

Fancy Pants

There is a new craze now and its crazy pants. I, for one, love crazy pants. It started as a way to have fun in yoga with all the decorative leggings. Then it migrated to incorporating them into my work/play wardrobe. Here are just a few fun pairs of leggings I have seen lately.
One. I actually have these leggings and I can not say good enough things. They are super comfortable, sweat proof, and stay on when I do yoga. Also, its a fantastic company, their customer services is awesome!
Two.Show your team colors via leggings! These leggings are sure to be a hit.
Three. I love the bright blue color of these! Athleta always has such great work out clothes.
Four. Tie Dye, breathable capris are great for yoga or running errands.

Decorating with Shutters

Shutters are typically something that we think about OUTSIDE of the home. Usually shutters are positioned next to windows or doors of a home and originally, shutters purpose was to block out both light and wind. Over time, shutters have become more decorative but remained on the outside of the home.
Recently, I have seen a lot of homes that actually bring shutters INSIDE the home and decorate with them. Shutters can bring a rustic or shabby chic feel to the home.
They can be hung on the wall to create texture or be used to display mementos, such as pictures.
Shutters can also have function through the home. Adding hooks creates a great key and coat hanger.
A unique take on the ever popular barn doors is using shutters around the doorway.
Would you decorate with shutters? How else would you use them?
