Today marks the last day of Teacher Appreciation week.If you have not done it yet make sure to thank the teacher(s) in your life.

Very early on in my real estate career, I saw the interconnectedness between the current real estate market and Denver’s public school system. Denver’s real estate market and population has experienced continual growth for consecutive years. With this growth comes a lot of change – homes (or even the land a home resides on) has become a fruitful commodity. This means homes are being sold for a high ticket price or rents are raised drastically.

What we forget is how this affects the youngest generation in Denver and the school district. I have had the opportunity to work with a number of teachers in or around Denver and they were able to shed some light on the current situation in Denver schools. Children have become very transient – coming and going through the school year. This often results from families needing to move to another rental property or cashing in on their home purchase made years ago. As a result of the spike in population here it leaves school often overpopulated and with not enough resources or support.

The current landscape makes the job of a teacher, educator, administrator or support staff member harder. In addition, it does our youngest generation a disservice. I am happy to do my part in helping by starting a program called Helping Denver Heroes. Through Helping Denver Heroes, when I am able to help a teacher, administrator or support staff member buy and/or sell a home, I donate 1% of my commission back to the school in which they work in in the employees name. This donation may be used however the school seems best fit.

Thank you to all the teachers or support staff that have trusted me with their home purchase or sale in the past! I appreciate all your hard word in the Denver community. Know a teacher, support member or school that I can help? Contact Elizabeth for more information.

Take some time to thank a teacher today but also remember that Denver is changing, how will you help to make it better?

In addition to writing for Daigle’s Digs, Elizabeth works full-time as a Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty Downtown, LLC.
