To create, we must destroy.

For the winter solstice, I did 108 sun salutations. Truth be told I did probably closer to 80 this time around but that is besides the point. The event started with this one quote that resonated with me, “to create, we must destroy”.

As the year came to a close, I realized that a lot of my old coping mechanisms crept in. When stress trickles in (or in some cases, the floodgates of stress open) our body has a natural flow on how to deal. It is what happens naturally and often we do not even think twice about it. Ultimately the only way to accomplish something different than what we have always created, is by DOING something different.

So here we are at the start of another year where everyone always sets out to complete resolutions. Lose weight, gain muscle, triple sales, find love… What is lost is that to accomplish these things, we must destroy what does not serve us or these goals. We must let go of habits, people, patterns, mindsets, beliefs that no longer serve us or our goals. It is often these things that sabotage our efforts at new goals.

I think Steve Jobs puts it nicely:

What will you destroy this year?
