Colorado Hot Springs

The temps are dropping in Denver (most days) and we are spending more time outside partaking in winter activities. What is better than a dip in a relaxing hot spring when the temperatures outside are low? Luckily, Colorado is blessed to have a number of natural hot springs through the state. Here were list four of our all-time favorites that you should consider trying.

1. Trimble Hot Springs                                                                                                                                                             Where: 6475 Co Rd. 203, Durango
Cost: $19 per adult, $15 for locals

Trimble Hot Springs is the only naturally heated hot springs available to the public in the Animals Valley, just north of Durango. These hot springs are located in a resort but open to the public for an inexpensive soak. The water is rich in minerals, mainly calcium bicarbonate waters with sodium and iron and several other minerals in lesser amounts. The therapy pools range in temperature from 100-110 degrees Fahrenheit, perfect for a relaxing soak.

2. Wiesbaden Hot Springs                                                                                                                                                     Where: 625 5th St., Ouray
Cost: $15

Interestingly, Wiesbaden Hot Springs has been featured in a number of national publications; Travel & Leisure, New York Times, National Geographic and Colorado Homes & Lifestyle, to name a few. Although, it still seems to be one of Colorado’s hidden gems. It’s European flair and causal atmosphere with the San Juan Mountains as a backdrop creates a superb place for a restful and relaxing stay. This spa has a continual hot springs vapor cave with degrees up to 108 Fahrenheit.

3. Valley View Hot Springs                                                                                                                                                     Where: 64393 County Road GG, Moffat
Cost: $15 per person from May to Sept. and $13 per person from Oct. to April

Take a dip in these hot springs while surrounding yourself with nature and enjoying wildlife pass by you on the wilderness trails. Although not necessarily hot, these springs are usually more like body temperature but the immersion of nature can not be beat! Looking for something a little hotter?  Valley View also has a geothermally and hydroelectrically heated hot tub and sauna for use.

4. South Canyon Hot Springs.                                                                                                                                                       Where: 0.2-mile out and back trail in Garfield Country near Glenwood Springs
Cost: Free

Beat the crowds at Glenwood Springs! Just a short hike away you will find South Canyon Hot Springs. Peacefully soak in these hot springs. More than likely, you and your company will score privacy while enjoying the backdrop of nature.

Colorado offers so many superb hot spring options that it was hard to nail down our favorites. What are your favorite hot springs in our great state? We would love to hear!
