Barn Doors – A Modern Take.

One of the unexpected results of Denver’s hot real estate market and numerous renovations and new builds is seeing the latest trends in home design. Over the last year, barn doors are making a very big appearance in many of these new homes. Although, these barn doors have a very modern look and feel versus the barn doors found in an actual barn.

Sliding barn doors are a sleek addition to a home. They can be used to separate any room in a home – a bathroom, master bedroom, study, playroom, laundry room and/or children’s room. Ascetically, they add great form and clean lines to a home.  The doors can take on many different looks in a room.

Salvaged pine plank doors creates a Mediterranean feel in this room:

Frosted windows on this door create a bit more privacy.

Reclaimed wood can create a rustic look.

Or a modern feel.

What do you think? Would you put a sliding barn door in your home? If so, what room would you put it in?

I’m not one to watch much T.V. but when I was sick my guilty pleasure became watching the first full season of The Girlfriend’s Guide to Divorce. As one would guess from the title, it is about a woman going through divorce. Interesting enough topic but I won’t lie my favorite thing about the series is the main character, Abby’s, house. It is a gorgeous mid century modern glass house. There are many things to love about this home.

The views:

The beautiful mid century front door:

The pool:

The floor to ceiling windows and glass doors:

And, of course, the floating staircase.:

As we watch the television, we can often forget how much goes into set design. This set is absolutely amazing with high end items sourced with lower end pieces. Also, a perfect mix of modern and mid century. After researching the home further to find drool-worthy photos, the concept of the glass house was fully described;

“It’s a metaphor for people living their lives in glass houses as Abby’s family life goes from privacy to full exposure by the end of the first episode,” says Fleming, who took inspiration from Dwell and Interior Design magazine as well as Pinterest and his personal reference library.

What do you think of the home? Do you love it as much as I do?
